Jonathon Lander (@jonathanleder) July 1, 2019 The Royals are in the middle of a long season and they have a lot to prove to themselves.
The Royals were swept by the Astros on Sunday night in Houston, the team that finished first in the AL Central and then last in the National League.
This loss came after a series of losses, most recently in a 7-1 loss at the hands of the Chicago Cubs.
The last time the Royals came close to winning the division was in 2015.
Kansas City also lost five of its last six games, including the ALDS against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The club has won three of the last four series against the Blue Jays, but its record against the team currently occupying second place in the American League East is 2-1.
The Blue Jays are the second-best team in the league.
The Astros are the third-best, but only after a 2-0 series victory over the New York Yankees.
They also won four of their last five games.
The team has scored a combined six runs in its last five series.
The next two games are against the New England Patriots and Washington Nationals, both of whom have a combined record of 3-2.
The teams are both tied for second place with a 2.00 ERA.
The Yankees are on pace for the worst record in the majors.
The Orioles are second in the NL East with a 3.50 ERA, while the Mets are third with a 4.29.
The Giants have won two of the three series this season.
The first one, a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, came on the heels of a 3-1 series victory at home over the Houston Astros.
The other, a 5-2 victory, came two weeks ago in the Bronx.
The series is tied 1-1, but it’s possible the Royals could be headed for a wild card spot in the division.
The Indians are fourth in the Central with a 5.16 ERA.
They’ve lost four of the past five games and have scored just two runs in those games.
Both teams have played a combined 17 games this season, but have not been able to close the gap to the rest of the division standings.
It’s also worth noting that both teams are on the cusp of reaching the playoffs.
The Athletics, who have won just two of their past nine games, have won three in a row.
The Twins have won four straight games and the Royals are eight games back of them for the division lead.
